Where possible we always try and source our meat locally, and pride ourselves with 100% traceable stock.  We have our own farm, in Rainow, which provides the shop with most of our Lamb and free-range eggs. Other local farms provide the beef and pork, and the provenance of all our meat is displayed in the shop. If you have any queries please don't hesitate to ask us.

The word "Organic" has become a difficult one for farmers, as the costs and levels of bureaucracy required to maintain an "organic" status are not sustainable for most small local farms. Indeed there is growing evidence that organic farming is also worse for the environment -MIT Review 2019.
Instead we prefer to focus on the welfare of the animals and the locality of the farmers.  We are blessed to be surrounded by many excellent local farms who supply our meat, and as farmers ourselves we understand the crucial importance of high standards of animal welfare in producing the highest quality meat. We can trace the source of all our meat products and champion the local farmers who continue to supply us with the best quality food.

All of our pies are made from scratch daily at the back of the shop. One of the main reasons our Grandfather purchased this site was due to presence of the bakehouse. We still use his recipes to handmake up to 1500 pies everyday! First the pastry is handmade and cut into shape, followed by our delicious homemade fillings. These are then finished, by adding pastry lids by hand, before they are put into our pie machine for crimping. All of our pies are deivious hot or cold and can now be ordered online! Spearings Butchers was established in 1945 by our grandfather, Denis William Spearing. Originally on Cross Street, the current site was purchased in 1959. In 1987 Marshal Spearing, our father, purchased the current Park Green shop, from Denis. At this point Marshal had already bought our farm, Wimberry Moss, in Rainow, to supply beef and lamb to the thriving butchers. Sadly, in 2017, Marshall developed Myloid Leukaemia. This led to the formation of Spearings Ltd, so that his wife and daughters (Jean, Rachel, Sarah and Emma) could take over the running of the business. Marshall returned to work in 2018, however tragically, in 2021 he passed away from complications related to his Leukaemia. The shop is now run by his 3 daughters, while Jean continues o manage our Farm. Click here to learn more
