Founded in 1945 by World War II veteran Denis William Spearing and his wife Margaret, Spearing’s Family Butchers is celebrating 75 years of operation. Beginning with £100 and a single shop in Cross Street, Macclesfield, the family soon expanded to farming their own livestock at Kinderfield’s Farm, Sutton. This farm-to-table passion for quality has remained a cornerstone of our business.

Marshall, Denis and Margaret’s son, stepped into the family business at 18 after completing his studies at Blackpool Food Technical College. After success with his own shop in Church Street, Macclesfield, he eventually took over his parents’ business at 12 Park Green in 1987. By 1993, his daughters Rachael, Sarah, and Emma were all involved in the business.

In 2017, when Marshall was diagnosed with acute Myeloid Leukemia, the family rallied together to keep the business going. Successfully overcoming these hurdles, Marshall returned to work after a successful bone marrow transplant in 2018.

The family business has not only survived health challenges but has also navigated shifts in dietary trends, climate change protests, and even Covid-19. Their determination and commitment to quality have allowed them to continue delivering top-quality produce to the local community.

We sadly pay tribute to the life and legacy of Marshall Spearing, a devoted family man, esteemed butcher, and the driving force behind our family business, who passed away in 2021. Even in his final days we couldn't keep Marshall out of the shop. His passion for serving his community with the best quality products will forever be etched in the ethos of Spearing's.
